Dr Ali is a board certified general surgeon with fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is also board certified in Obesity Medicine. He is the director of Bariatric Surgery Program and the director of robotic surgery at UPMC Hamot. He is a fellow of American College of Surgeons and a fellow of American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr Ali is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons(SAGES), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery(ASMBS), American College of Surgeons(ACS). As the director of laparoscopic and Bariatric surgery, Dr Ali performed open and laparoscopic weight loss surgery at the University of Missouri - Kansas City's (UMKC) Truman Medical Center, from October 2000 until September 2004.
Dr Ali has been practising minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery and bariatric surgery including laparoscopic Roux-N-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and Lap-Band procedures at UPMC Hamot Medical Center since 2004.
